Curt Hanson, M.D., is a Consultant in Hematopathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with an academic rank of Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. He is the previous Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Mayo Clinic Laboratories (MCL).  He is also on the Board of Directors for Clinical Lab 2.0.

Dr. Hanson is an hematopathologist with expertise in bone marrow pathology with emphasis on translational research related to the study of hematologic diseases.  More recently, Dr. Hanson has concentrated his clinical and academic interest on value-based medicine. In particular, he has focused on how the clinical laboratory needs to adapt to the emerging value-based reimbursement environment, but how it can also be a significant contributor to this effort.

Dr. Hanson earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He completed his residency in anatomic/clinical pathology and a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Minnesota.
